Life inside pharma

A very happy Holiday to all....

Christmas Tree
To all the readers of my BLOG I would like to wish you a very merry Christmas. I write my BLOG because I am passionate about the reason we are all here; and that is to help patients make more informed choices about their healthcare decisions. All DTC marketers should spend some time with their patients so that they can understand what they go through in treating a variety of medical conditions. Read More...

Farewell Mr Taurel

images
Finally ! The CEO of Lilly, Mr Sidney Taurel, is stepping down and it's long over due. When I was at Lilly and we lost the patent on Prozac Mr Taurel made a gesture by taking a $1 in paid salary. Of course his millions in bonuses more than made up for his salary cut. Under his watch Lilly lost patent protection on its best drug Prozac, had to pay hundreds of millions of dollars to settle Zyprexa and Evista litigation and had data "leak" on it's new blood thinning medication that caused Lilly stock to tank. A moral decision ?

My good friend John Mack and I have been exchanging comments on his latest story that someone who worked for Lilly bribed someone in Sweden to get approval for Prozac. According to Pharmalot Lilly's President of the US took a swipe at online forums that attract disgruntled sales reps, describing sites such as CafePharma as “outlets for people who don’t have the courage to speak out with their ideas” for improving their role and the performance of their companies. We prefer to think of the site as an electronic bathroom wall, but as you know, the truth is sometimes learned in the most unexpected places. Ms Connelly is so removed from reality in her enclosed office. I can personally tell you that at Lilly people are NOT rewarded for speaking out and voices of reason often go unheard. Read More...

The talent pool may not have a lifeguard on duty

images-1
Pick any newspaper and it's easy to find a story on pharma. Amgen, Pfizer, Abbott all laying off people. Sales down, new problems with current drugs and serious missteps with others in a hostile environment indicate that the storm is far from over. One of the side effects from the turbulence within the industry maybe a serious talent drain. Great marketers may go elsewhere as marketing budgets continue to get slashed to meed Wall Street's expectations and people fresh out of school would have to be crazy to even consider working in big pharma Read More...
