Viva Viagra = DTC RIP

I couldn't believe my eyes last night when I saw the new Viva Viagra campaign on the Nightly News. Obviously taking a page from the Rozarem play book of really bad DTC here we have some guys singing about Viagra? At it's best DTC can educate and inform but when DTC tries to entertain it has taken a step towards the dark side of irrelevant advertising and a waste of DTC dollars.

Can anyone in their right mind imagine some guys sitting around and singing "Viva Viagra" ? Can anyone imagine someone singing this song on the way into work? Obviously the life guard is on vacation in the DTC marketing talent pool. I am sure this is sure to become destined for DTC Perspectives campaign of the year !

Hey? Let's get a six pack pick up the geetars and sing Viva Viagra !

I worked with the DTC team on the launch of Cialis and learned first hand the barriers that many face to seeking treatment for this condition that effects couples. These barriers cannot be overcome with a jingle of images of couples in bathtubs. It can however benefit from social media but then pharma doesn't know to tackle that channel yet. A visit to any ED board reveals posts from women begging for help to get their husbands into doctors and men who are making up excuses not to use Viagra or Cialis because of side effects that are out of context.

Now the folks at Pfizer are back on the air with the Viva Viagra campaign. Perhaps they are trying to trivialize ED as in let's have a drink and I'll have a Viagra so we can fool around? I can see it now, two guys are in a bar talking and one says "well gotta go home, tonight is date night" , "OK see ya later, have a good one", "yea you too...Viva Viagra!"
Unfortunately Viva Viagra is another reason that real good DTC is on life support and maybe DOA.
