America is losing the war on obesity and it's costing us all dearly

If America is at war with obesity, then obesity is winning. Three out of 10 adults are obese—72 million people with a condition associated with diabetes, heart disease, some cancers and other chronic illnesses. The belt-busting American waistline is becoming as much a political as public health question—and if some politician hasn’t already introduced the No Buffet Left Behind Act, he will after this week’s big “Weight of the Nation” report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Wasting money on search marketing? You probably are

Search engine marketing. It has become a "we have to do it" attitude among pharma marketers and is probably the biggest waste of money in the DTC budget next to TV. Even when companies spend a lot of money on search they rarely measure the true ROI like cost per targeted action. Instead they still believe in old school marketing and measure clicks to the website without looking at things like bounce rates. A client of mine recently reduced his search engine marketing budget by 50% saving $500K and his ROI increased substantially causing him to ask "what the hell were we thinking?" Read More...

Anytime you conduct qualitative research with physicians you are sure to hear a lot but I wasn't ready for the candid remarks I heard from physicians during a full day of research earlier this year. While they all agreed that the Web is empowering patients the misinformation and the self diagnosing that is going on is becoming troublesome to many and they wonder how many physicians would just write a script rather than go through the diagnostic criteria needed to establish a diagnosis.
