Cymbalta hits emotions...

I continue to applaud the Cymbalta DTC spots that are currently running. A lot of creative people forget that emotion is a powerful motivator and the Cymbalta spots, with the music in the background, clearly show how depression can effect the patient and those around her/him. In my opinion this is THE best DTC spot on the air right now but then I would not expected anything less from a great Cymbalta DTC team led by an outstanding consumer marketing Director.

Emotion is very powerful if it is used right and I am really surprised how many creative people don't use emotion more to convey the importance of taking care of health issues. Grey did a great job with the Cymbalta spot from the music in the background to the images of people who are trying to deal with depression.

emotionals

As someone who has lost both parents to cancer and congestive heart failure within the last 3 years I know that there is a long ride on an emotional roller coaster. When my dad was diagnosed with depression after my mother passed away we tried everything to cheer him up. We flew him up to Indianapolis where we lived and had in a private room at an assisted living facility (he was wheelchair bound). Then I suggested that we try putting him on Cymbalta as working for Lilly at the time I knew it was a great product. Within a week my father seemed to come back to life and was asking for his New York Times, talking politics and sports again and wanted to visit the dogs and our house. Not only did it do wonders for him but it helped me and my wife as well as we felt like a huge burden had been lifted from our shoulders.

Towards the end when my fathers health began to fail due to congestive heart failure I would receive phone calls in meetings from him asking for things and food at the same time I was trying to work on launching a major product for Lilly. Needless to say I didn't get much sleep and our physician suggested putting my dad on Zyprexa. Once again he bounced back and even though he knew the end was near he seemed to be at peace and once again a drug helped not only the patient but those around him as well.

When I see the Cymbalta commercial I think back to those days when my dad was in a funk and how he seemed to snap out of it and asked for his Times and talked trash about Republicans and missing New York. I am sure that somewhere some lawyers are waiting to pounce on any bad news that comes from people taking Cymbalta but the bottom line is that it helps a LOT of people and Lilly and Grey have done a tremendous job with the Cymbalta spots. Please use more emotion creative people it is underused today ad we need more to evoke a response from the audience and let them know that a lot of medical conditions are treatable if patients work with their physicians on treatments.
